More than two million Palestinians in Gaza face a hunger crisis, with the death of malnutrition growing with the day, according to the United Nations organization.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a group supported by Israel and the United States, has operated in Gaza since late May. It says he has spread 91 million meals, mainly in the form of food boxes.

Until the BBC has been able to see these first -hand boxes as Israel blocked international journalists to enter Gaza, the BBC Cerify has looked at photos and other information shared by GHF and talks about help experts who have sparked their nutritional value.

What is in the boxes?

Videos have spread online to Palestinians showing the contents of the boxes, but GHF has only shared images of them this week.

Two photos published on the X Show, mainly dried foods that require water and fuel for cooking, including pasta, chickpeas, lentils and wheat flour. Also included is the cooking oil, salt and tachines or sesame paste.

GHF said these boxes also contain some kind of food ready, such as Halva bars, a popular breakfast made from mixing tahini or sesame paste and sugar.

The organization provided us with a table about what it describes as a list of elements of “indicator” in each box, with a calorie collapse.

The typical box contains 42,500 calories and that “each box supplies 5.5 people in 3.5 days”. According to the table.

The graph showing the contents of a help box. It marked wheat flower, red lentils, vegetable oil, fava beans, chickpeas, iodized salt, pasta, halva bars and green beans.

Sometimes it includes replacement items such as tea, cookies and chocolate, and also supplies potatoes and onions, but they are not included in the food figures, GHF said.

“Serious weaknesses”

Professor of International Development of Assistance from the London School of Economics analyzes the list provided by GHF to check and say that although he supplies enough calories needed for survival, he has “serious weaknesses”.

“In essence, this basket provides a full stomach but an empty diet,” said Prof. Stewart Gordon. “The biggest drawback is what is missing … This (is) a very first aid food basket designed to stop the effect of hemorrhage, which is acute hunger.”

“A diet like this for weeks would lead to” hidden hunger “, increasing the risk of diseases such as anemia and scurvy,” he said.

Israeli government also released images of various items contained in GHF box

Dr. Andrew Seal, Assistant Professor of International Eating at London University College, said food boxes have a deficiency of calcium, iron, zinc and vitamins C, D, B12 and K. He added that there was also a lack of foods to suit young children.

“The prolonged consumption of these foods, even if they were available in adequate quantities, would lead to a number of disadvantages and serious health problems,” he said.

He added that unlike GHF, agencies like UN usually distribute food in bulk and supplement it with purposeful nutrition for vulnerable groups. Thehe The World Food Program (WFP) said It also aims to deliver emergency consumables for young children and pregnant women.

GHF did not answer BBC Verify’s questions about the tips on the nutritional content of his help boxes or whether he plans to cope with the fears raised by experts.

Gazani posted video on help boxes they received

For those who manage to get a box, they still need water and fuel to prepare dried goods in spite of Water crisis and a severe fuel shortage facing gas.

The UN Humanitarian Affairs Office (OCA) has warned this week that the Gaza water crisis is rapidly deteriorating. He also warned that families should resort to dangerous and unhealthy cooking methods, such as the use of waste materials.

WFP said in May that official supplies of cooking gas have stopped and that it is sold on the black market at prices up to 4000% higher than the levels before the conflict.

UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres said that this week, the Gazanas are facing a serious shortage of basic supplies and that the malnutrition is “upcoming”.

Almost one of three people in Gaza went days without eating, the UN Food Assistance Program has warnedS

“Malnutrition is increasing with 90,000 women and children in urgent need for treatment,” the World Food Program (WFP) said on Friday.
