For New York and the surrounding areas, consultations on quality air for quality have been issued due to smoke from wild fires in Canada.
The X, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the State of New York (DEC) and the Ministry of Health (DOH) issued consultations on Long Island, the New York subway, the Dolna Hudson Valley, the Gorna Hudson and Adirondax Valley on Saturday.
Authorities warn the air quality in these regions is “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
Wild fires in Canada have forced tens of thousands of people to leave their homes, and the smoke that is moving above the border has caused fears of air quality in the Northern US.
The air quality index is thought to be over 100 in a large part of New York State on Saturday and can reach 135. The signals are also designed for parts of New England.
AQI measures the severity of air pollution and categorizes health risks. The greater the number, the more dangerous the air is to breathe.
This is not the first time the US authorities have reported air quality signals due to smoke from Canadian fires.
A similar signal was issued in mid -July, with additional precautions recommended for babies and the elderly.
The political consequences of the wild fire smoke have also reached Washington.
Earlier in July, six congressional members wrote to the Canadian ambassador, complaining that smoke from wild fires made it difficult for Americans to enjoy their summer.
Currently, there are more than 550 active fires in Canada, with the most concentrated in the province of Manitoba, according to authorities. 6.1 million hectares (15 million acres) land have been burned throughout the country in the last year.
May and June were a particularly destructive months in West Canada, with approximately 30,000 being forced to evacuate the provinces of Sascachewan and Manitoba, where local administrations declare a state of emergency.
Scientists consistently associate the increased seasons of wild fires to climate change.
Canada is It is believed to be warmed twice as large as the world tariffAnd its Arctic regions are heated almost three times larger than global speed, scientists have warned.
