The Grand Travers County Sheriff’s service has confirmed that it is investigating “multiple stab incidents at Wal-Mart at Traverse City.”

The suspect is a Michigan resident and used a “weapon for a folding knife in style,” Sheriff Michael Shee told reporters. The incident seems to be a “casual act,” he added.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the federal staff was responsible for providing the necessary support to local authorities.

Governor Michigan Gretchen Whitmer said he was “in connection with the law enforcement agencies.”

“Our thoughts are with the victims and the community that breaks down from this brutal act of violence,” she added.

Traverse City is about 255 miles (410 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
