4 dead, including an officer in the Midtown attack

A police officer in New York is among four people killed in shooting in the middle city in Manhattan.

Police said the gunner had entered the office building on Monday night with a rifle in a clear view before spraying bullets in the lobby and upstairs. He then took his own life.

Shooting – to the center of the most populated American city – sent pedestrians moving for cover, while police warned of an active shooter around 1830. Those who were pressed inside the building as a firearm – some even accumulate sofas and chairs to doors as they hid in offices.

Police claim that the suspect, the 27 -year -old Shane Devon Tamura, traveling from Las Vegas, but the motive is unclear.

Among the killed was New York officer Didarul Islam, who worked on the building during the attack. The three other victims have not yet been identified.

New York Police Commissioner, Jessica Tish, said the suspect had entered the building of the 345 Park Avenue, which houses businesses, including the National Football League (NFL) and the Blackstone Investment Company, and immediately opened fire.

He fatally shot Islam in the lobby of the building, and then strives for a woman who hid a cover behind a pillar. He continued through the lobby, “sprayed” with firing, hitting many people – including a security guard behind a desk and another man nearby.

As he was waiting for an elevator, a woman stepped back, but the shooter spared her and released her, said Commissioner Tish.

He made his way to the 33rd floor – where the leadership of the Ruden building is located – and opened a fire again – killing one person before going down the corridor and shooting in the chest, she added at a press conference on Monday night.

Authorities are unsure of a motive, although Tish noted that the gunman “documented the history of mental health”.

Tamura traveled from Las Vegas to the east coast for the last few days, stopping in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and New Jersey. He arrived in New York shortly before the shooting. It is unclear if he has any relationships with New York, the building or the management of the Ruden building.

Police searched the BMW of a suspect he had double parking in front and found numerous circles of magazines and a revolver. The vehicle was registered in Nevada in Tamura, which was the registered owner of a pistol in the state.

Local employees and authorities celebrated Islam officer on Monday night. “He died while he lived – a hero,” said G -Ja Tish.

An employee of the department for three years, an Islam officer was an immigrant from Bangladesh. He and his wife have two children, and his wife is currently pregnant with their third child.

“He was doing the job we asked him to do,” said Da Tish. “He made the ultimate victim.”

The incident led to the stop of parts of Manhattan and public transport. A BBC journalist at the scene said he saw dozens of police vehicles and at least one person with bloody crates taken away on a stretcher.

The page reports that they hear what sounds like rifles and the police told those in the area, including the BBC journalist, to shelter in nearby buildings.

The police worked on the floor along the floor to clear the building, an effort that took hours.

Mama Buki, working at a nearby Sip & Scoop cafe, while the incident unfolded, told the BBC that dozens of people from the surrounding buildings had been evacuated.

They held their hands over their heads, she said.

Bouhenni said she had recognized many of them as clients. “It’s so horrifying for them, I hope they can go home.”
