President Donald Trump on Thursday restored the presidential fitness test in public schools.

For the first time in the 1950s, to assess the health and athleticism of young people, the assessment included meetings, push-ups, pulls and a seating and taking test. It also includes a competitive component, recognizing the best performers with the Presidential Fitness Award.

The test was terminated in 2012 and replaced by a fitness program during Barack Obama’s term.

The BBC Bernd Debusmann is considering the history of the test and what Americans should say about it.
