Europe fires viewed from above

The heat wave drives fires in southern Europe, with temperatures exceeding 40C (104F).

Thousands have been forced to flee, and red heat signals are in force in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and the Balkans.

Scientists have warned global warming makes the Mediterranean summer more hot and dry, nourishing longer and more intensity seasons of fire.
