Zelenski and EU leaders to call Trump before Putin’s top meeting

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski joins European leaders in negotiations aimed at increasing pressure on US President Donald Trump to face Ukraine during a Friday summit in Alaska.

In an online call with Trump on Wednesday, leaders are expected to repeat that decisions without Ukraine should not be made, including changing their borders by force.

Trump said any peaceful deal would include “Flaiming Territories” and it is believed that one of the demands of Russian President Vladimir Putin is that Kiev transmits the parts of Donbass, which he is still in control.

On Tuesday, Zelenski said such a concession could be used as a springboard for future attacks by Russia, which has recently made profits.

Russia began a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

A Russian summer offensive progresses when the troops made a sudden thrust near the eastern city of Dobropilia and progressed 10 km (six miles) for a short period of time.

As he downplayed Russia’s advancement, Zelenski said it was “clear to us” that Moscow’s goal was to create a “certain information space” before Putin meets Trump, that “Russia is moving forward, as Ukraine loses.”

There are no official details of what it requires that Putin could do when he met Trump in Anchorage on Friday.

Donbass – made up of the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk – has been partially occupied by Russia since 2014.

Moscow now owns almost all Luhanski and about 70% of Donetsk, but speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Zelenski has confirmed that Ukraine will reject any Donbass departure proposal.

Early Zelenski insisted that the Ukrainians would not “give their land to the Ocupa” and pointed out the Constitution of the country, which requires a referendum before a change in its territory.

The Ukrainian leader earlier stated that all agreements without Kiev’s involvement would represent “dead decisions”.
