At least one person died and several others were injured after a train collided with a tanker with a mess and derailed in southern Denmark, staff said.

Police said the crash happened between the cities of Tingle and Cliplev in southern Jutland and that the officers were in place.

Local Outlet TV2 reported that helicopters were sent to the scene and cited local railway staff, saying that the train had “hit a porridge tanker” at the passage level.

The country’s Railway operator DSB said it had closed services between Tinglev and Sønderborg near the German border.

Photos from the scene showed a carriage lying on the side, with the passengers standing around the train tracks.

Police said 95 passengers were aboard, including students from a school in Sondrborg. Two of the victims were taken by a helicopter.

The National Railway Agency Banedanmark wrote to X that the collision had happened on a railway transition. According to local media, at least two of the train wagons were derailed.
