It’s baaaack! after Debuting in August, Horror’s Greatest Back for more clips and chats about horror’s most beloved sub-genre. The first season dug into Stephen King adaptations, monsters, Japanese horror, horror comedies, and tropes and clichés (with an emphasis on slasher films)—leaving plenty of room for more. This time, it is animal attack, Film scoreHidden gems, space horror, and killer dates.
Many talking heads repeat; It’s pretty clear Horror’s Greatest Both seasons (or who knows how many) have been filmed, and the list of interviewees again includes David Dastmalchian, Kate Siegel, Joe Hill, Jonah Ray Rodriguez, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Alex Winter, Tananariv Du, and the Bullet Brothers, among others. It’s a fascinating group of people involved in the actual production of horror films and media, with a sprinkling of scholars, writers, critics and programmers. Everyone clearly shares a deep love and appreciation for the genre.
As ever, the editing is quick and the clips are well-curated, with stop-motion interludes and in-episodes breaking up the discussion in fun ways. An example is the dual list of the best and worst horror-movie pets in the episode “Animal Attacks”; You can guess where who That ranking falls. Although there is some overlap between the episodes-the jaw A lot comes up, for example—enough to cover this Horror’s Greatest It doesn’t feel like it’s repeating itself or diluting itself too much.

Since the first season focused on a slightly more obvious segment, the second season is able to get weirder, which allows that Horror’s Greatest Traverse some lesser known turf. It’s a bonus for viewers who get to learn more about the offbeat film, as well as a bonus for talking heads, who—especially in the “Hidden Gems” episode, which is a fun inclusion—encourage overlooked favorites, many of which are vintage. And there are international selections, as well as should be cult classics.
The strongest episodes are probably “Attack of the Beast,” which finds out how the jaw launched a wave of copycats but also inspired a taste for films that mixed serious emotional environmental concerns and “nature strikes back” themes, such as alligators jumping out of sewers and PCP-crazed zoo animals; And “hidden gems,” though it may be my excitement to see accolades heaped on relatively obscure choices Let’s scare Jessica to death And The Psychic. That episode in particular feels like you’re getting a viewing recommendation from a friend who’s seen every movie, except that friend shuddered (and indeed, there are plenty of titles available to stream after you’re done). Horror’s Greatest)
“Killer Dates” may be the least successful, as it has the most obscure through-line. Bobs from it CarrieIts prom nightmare get outThe nightmare of meeting parents who love movies terrorist train And Jennifer’s body There are… hook-ups and relationships and romance elements that exist alongside their body numbers. It doesn’t feel as coherent as the other episodes, which works against it.
Along these lines, broadening his focus a bit, Horror’s Greatest The second season tends to go beyond what many fans might consider strictly “horror”. Even beyond the “space horror” episode, there’s a lot more sci-fi included, and the show makes some claims that may be controversial to some. You may be able to expand your definition of scary to include, as Horror’s Greatest The 1985 Martin Scorsese film I Want You hours laterAbout one’s hellish night in New York City. Or you might not, especially when there are so many “I’m horror, and proud of it” type films out there in the conversation.
Perhaps this is why we have our fingers crossed for a third season? A five-episode second season Horror’s Greatest Tremors will begin today, December 31, with a weekly rollout starting Tuesday, January 28.
