Thousands of firefighters fought huge flames in Spain and Portugal on Saturday, as parts of southern Europe remain covered by record heat wave.

The Spanish National Meteorological Agency Aemet said temperatures exceeded 44C in several places on Saturday and warned a very high risk of fires in “practically the whole country”.

More than 1500 square km (579 square miles) are devastated by the flames in Spain, and seven people have died.

This week, the heat wave was burned from Southern Europe, which prompted wild fires in Spain, Portugal, Greece, France and the Balkans.
