Hurricane Erin has intensified to a hurricane of category 4 as it threatens to bring life -threatening surf and torn currents on the east coast of the United States.
The rains caused by the storm are already beginning to hit the southeastern Bahamas, and the Turk and Kaykos Islands, where a tropical storm warning is in force.
As long as Erin is not expected to make the islands on the islands, it is expected to bring rainfall up to six inches (15.2 cm) to the Turks and Kaikos and the Eastern Bahamas.
Erin, the first hurricane of the Atlantic Ocean season in 2025, “explosively deepened and strengthened” on Saturday in a category 5 storm before he briefly loses strength and now regain strength.
More than 150,000 people have been left without power in Puerto Rico after strong winds have damaged the electric lines, according to the local energy company Luma.
But the company said it had made emergency repairs and that by Sunday night local time, 95% of its customers had working electricity.
The exterior rainbar of the hurricane has begun to affect the Bahamas, said the National Hurricane Center in the United States (NHC).
As long as the storm is not expected to hit the islands directly, the disaster risk management organ has encouraged residents to prepare.
Its managing director Aarone Sardzent told the Bahamians to check which shelters are closest to them and to ensure that they were aware of alternative shelters, if the first was full.
“These storms are very variable and can make sudden changes in movement,” he said.
The NHC’s forecast is for Erin’s core to move east of the southeast of the Bahamas today and move between Bermuda and the eastern coast of the United States until mid -week.
He also said that Erin would remain a “big and dangerous hurricane” during this time.
The outer shores – a string of islands off the shores of North Carolina – are already preparing for strong surfing and strong winds.
Authorities there have ordered a mandatory evacuation to Hateras, warning that the main highway connecting Hateras to other islands can become impassable.
Forecasters also warned of dangerous tides that could affect the entire Eastern coast of the United States.
