Hamas has agreed to the latest proposal by regional mediators to terminate the fire and hostage with Israel, a source in the Palestinian armed group told the BBC.
The proposal from Egypt and Qatar is said to be based on a two -step frame presented by American envoy Steve Vikof in June.
He will see Hamas free about half of the 50 remaining Israeli hostages – 20 of which are thought to be alive – in two batches during the initially 60 -day truce. There will also be negotiations for a constant termination of fire.
It is unclear what Israel’s answer will be, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet said it would now only accept a deal if “all hostages are put into one move.”
In a video posted after the advent of Hamas’s approval reports, Netanyahu did not comment directly, but said he was left with the impression that the group was “under enormous pressure”.
Later this week, his cabinet is expected to approve the Israeli military plan to occupy the city of Gaza, where the strengthening of Israeli strikes prompted thousands of Palestinians to escape.
The Prime Minister has announced Israel’s intention to expand his offensive and conquer the whole gas – including the areas where most of his two million inhabitants have requested asylum – after indirect talks with Hamas on a bargain with a ceasefire breakdown last month.
On Sunday, hundreds of thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv to ask for their government to agree with Hamas to return all hostages home and end the war.
Netanyahu accused the protesters of hardening Hamas’s position.
He said the war would only end after all the hostages were released and Hamas disarmed. He also wants Gaza to be demilitarized, held under Israeli security control and governed by an administration not related to Hamas or Palestinian power.
Hamas called for a comprehensive transaction that the hostages he is conducting, exchanged for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, as well as the termination of the war and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli forces from Gaza. It says it will not disarm unless an independent Palestinian state has been created.
The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to an attack led by Hamas against southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 others were hostage.
Since then, at least 62,004 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the health ministry in the territory.
