JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

However, in a statement posted on X, the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesman warned the residents of al-Burej to evacuate in advance of an imminent attack by militants firing rockets from the area.

On October 7, 2023, he claimed to have killed a Hamas militant, Abdulhadi Sabah, who had helped infiltrate Kibbutz Nir Oz during the Islamist group’s attack on southern Israel overnight.

The order to clear the al-Burej camp led to fresh displacement, although it was not immediately known how many people were affected.

Israel says its three-month operation in northern Gaza is aimed at preventing the regrouping of Hamas militants. The order to evacuate civilians is to keep them out of harm’s way, the military said.

Palestinian and UN officials say there is no safe place in Gaza and the displacement is worsening the humanitarian situation for the people.

According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, more than 1,500 displaced tents around Gaza were flooded during the past two days of heavy rain, leaving people exposed to the cold and their property damaged.

Hundreds of additional tents have been hit by less severe flooding, which remains unusable to displaced people.

Much of the area in the northern towns of Beit Hanon, Jabalia and Beit Lahia has been depopulated and destroyed, prompting Israel to set up a closed buffer zone after the end of the war in Gaza.

According to Wafa, the troops blew up residential areas in and around Beit Lahiya and Jabalia, while tanks shelled Gaza City and al-Buraj camp.

Israel’s Gaza campaign has killed more than 45,500 Palestinians, according to health officials in Hamas territory. Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced and much of the small coastline has been destroyed.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking another 251 hostages to Gaza, according to Israel.
