The Mexican Lord of Drugs, Ismail El Mayo Zambada, has entered into a guilty recognition of two accusations of drug smuggling and conspiracy in court in New York, ending one of the most long and well -known criminal quarries in organized crime history.
Zambada was not just every master of drugs.
He has been the founder of the Sinaloa cartel, for years the largest and most powerful criminal organization in Mexico -with an amazing global scope.
Last year, he admitted that he was not guilty of a drug smuggling, putting weapons and money laundering crimes. But now he changed his request to a federal judge in Brooklyn.
In this way, he officially accepted his role in creating a huge criminal network, which sent huge amounts of cocaine and other drugs in the United States, as he co-founded the cartel in the late 1980s.
The step comes weeks after US prosecutors have confirmed that they will not seek the death penalty against the 77-year-old Mexican king.
Zambada was arrested in Texas last year after an exceptional double cross by the sons of his former ally, the closed co -founder of Cartel Sinaloa, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.
El Chapo was sentenced to life imprisonment in the same court in 2019.
After his arrest, the cartel split into two main factions: one led by El Mayo, and his rival, led by Guzman’s sons, known as Los Chapitos. The conflict between the two countries continues to rage, especially in the state of Sinaloa himself.
At the end of July 2024, Zambada was allegedly lured at a meeting with one of El Chapo’s son, Joaquin Guzman Lopez.
Initial reports suggest that Guzman Lopez then put his rival on the board of a light aircraft, but later Zambada claims to have been planted and overcome by Los Chapitos and forcibly removed in Texas.
US law enforcement officers were waiting for the plane when he landed near El Paso, and the two men were immediately removed.
By entering the guilty legal basis, Zambada is expected to receive a more rescue sentence. At the end of the 70s and according to the reports, he may have reasoned that it was useless to continue to claim his innocence, especially given the sentence and life sentence of Guzman in 2019.
Last year, it was confirmed that Guzman’s sons, Joaquin and his younger brother Ovidio, were negotiating on a legal basis with the US government.
In May, 17 members of the Guzman family were escorted in the United States by employees. Last month, Ovidio pleaded guilty to Chicago on numerous accusations of drug smuggling and participating in a ongoing criminal endeavor.
At its height, Zambada was probably the most powerful Lord of Drugs in the world.
More shadows than other Kingpins -more special El Chapo, whose escape from prison in 2001 and 2015 made titles around the world -Zambada was no less ruthless or calculating.
For about five decades, he successfully escaped from arrest or capture. During this time, it directs the transport of huge amounts of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine to the United States through land, sea and air.
Now, in the US courtroom, one of the most durable names in global drug trafficking has accepted its role at the top of that of the largest and most complex criminal networks in the world.
He is to be sentenced in January 2026.
