A teenager who shot Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbai, sentenced to seven years

A 15-year-old boy was sentenced to seven years in detention of minors for shooting Colombian President Hope Miguel Uribe Turbay at a rally in Bogota in June.

The conservative senator, who was 39 years old, underwent numerous operations after being hit by three bullets, but died on August 11.

The teenager was accused of attempting murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

After years of growing peace, shooting shocked the Colombians, who still remember political violence in the 1980s and 90s, when several presidential candidates were killed for president and influential Colombian figures.

Uribe was shot dead in the head of a rally campaign on June 7, with an uninvited video of the murder, widespread online.

Local media reports suggest that after the teenager’s arrest, he shouted, “I made it for money for my family.”

The Senator was a popular member of the Party of the Right Democratic Center, looking for his party nomination for the 2026 presidential election.

His father, Miguel Uribe, Londono, announced his own presidential campaign earlier this week, in which he said it was an effort to keep his son’s legacy.

Uribe Lohno was a member of the Bogota Municipal Council in the late 1980s and the Colombia Conservative Party Senator in the early 1990s.

During this period, several candidates for president and influential Colombian figures were killed, Including Uribe’s own mother, journalist Diana turbai.

She was abducted by LOS Extraditables in 1990 – an union created by leading drugs of drugs. She was held hostage by them for five months before being shot during an attempt to rescue.

Uribe often quotes her as her inspiration to run for the political service to “work for our country”.
