ReutersThe main suspect of German investigators in the disappearance of Madeleine McCan will be released from prison in a few weeks, local authorities confirmed.
Christian Brukner, who is serving a sentence in northern Germany for a sentence for rape, will be issued at the latest by September 17, said leading prosecutor, who is investigating the disappearance of the young child before the BBC.
Hans Christian Walters also said he believed that the 48-year-old German citizen was dangerous, but that the present legal situation means that he must be released from prison without delay.
Brukner has never been charged with a crime regarding Madeleine’s disappearance and denies any involvement.
The then three-year-old disappeared from an apartment complex in Praya to Luz in Algarve on May 3, 2007, provoking an investigation throughout Europe, which has become one of the cases of missing persons with the largest profile.
Madeleine’s parents had dinner with friends at a short walk restaurant, while their daughter and her younger brothers and twins fell asleep in the apartment on the ground floor.
They periodically registered with the children until her mother Kate found that she was missing around 10:00 pm local time.
The case remains unresolved, but German prosecutors have indicated evidence that suggests that Brukner may have been in the area when Madeleine has disappeared.
G -n Walters said that while he and other prosecutors did not believe that they had sufficient evidence to officially blame Brukner in connection with the McCan case, their efforts would continue.
Brukner “is not only our suspect number one, he is the only suspect,” he said. “There is no one else.”
“We have evidence that speaks against (Brukner), which shows that he is responsible for Madeleine McCan’s disappearance and death,” he said.
“In the last five years, we have found nothing to blame (he). We have found evidence that strengthens our case. But in our opinion, this is not strong enough to make a sentence of guilty, so we have not been able to blame him or apply for an arrest warrant so far.”
Due to the differences in the legal systems, the German authorities suspect Brusner of Madeleine McCan murder, while the British police continues to treat her disappearance as a case of missing persons.

The prosecutor – who has led the German efforts to resolve Madeleine’s disappearance since announced that Brukner was their main suspect in 2020 – added that an expert had recently evaluated Brukner as a danger to society.
“You should expect (Brusner) to commit additional crimes.”
As a result, prosecutors applied for restrictions to be placed on it when it is released – including installing it with an ankle marker, said G -n Walters. These conditions will be resolved by a court hearing that will not be open to the public.
Madeleine’s disappearance was initially investigated by the Portuguese authorities before German prosecutors lead. The Portuguese authorities have also cited Brukner as an official suspect, or Arguido.
Brukner, who spent many years of his life in Algarve, was a drift, a small criminal and a convicted sexual criminal. It has several previous sentences, including for sexual abuse of children in 1994 and 2016.
He is known to have spent time in the same part of Portugal between 2000 and 2017. German prosecutors are linked to their data on mobile phones and the sale of cars with their case against him.
Brushner is currently closed to rape a 72-year-old American tourist in Portugal in 2005.
DistributionPortuguese and German police held A new search in June On the ground between where McCans was staying and turned to Brusner, but that did not give a breakthrough.
However, d -n wolters said the objects that were seized during demand were still being analyzed.
He said he realized that the ongoing investigation of prosecutors in the northern German city of Braunschweig could lose accuracy after five years of investigations with seemingly tangible results.
“I can only ask for your understanding that we would certainly not position each other so clearly five years ago if we had only hot air.”
The German prosecutor said he had not excluded further searches.
