The man who was caught on the camera, grabbing a young boy’s hat at the US Open, said he made a “huge mistake” after the incident became viral.

Piotr Szczerek, a Polish CEO of a pavement company, said he was “convinced” tennis star Camille Miikhrzak has “handed over his hat in my direction.”

“I know I did something that seemed like a conscious gathering of a memory from a child,” he wrote in a statement. “It was not my intention, but that didn’t change the fact that I hurt the boy and disappointed the fans.”

The video made during the Mihrzac match on Thursday showed that the tennis player, who offers his hat to a child before looking for Szczerek.

The video versions were widely shared in social media and sparked sharp criticism of the actions of G -N Szczerek.

The CEO wrote on social media on Monday: “I would like to apologize unequivocally to the injured boy, his family, as well as to all fans and the player himself.”

He added that he had returned the boy’s hat and hoped that she “at least partially corrected the damage that was done.”

Mihrzak, who just won his match against Russian ninth seeds Karen Khachanov when the incident unfolded, told The New York Post on Saturday that “obviously this is some confusion.”

“I pointed to giving the hat, but I happened a lot after my match after I was super tired and super excited about the victory,” he said.

“I just missed it. I had a dead look if you knew what I mean. I’m sure the person was also acting at the moment of warmth at the moment of emotions.”

The tennis star reunited with the boy over the weekend, sharing videos from him, giving a young fan hat and other goods on Instagram.

“I had a nice meeting today,” wrote The Tennis Pro, adding, “Do you recognize (the hat)?”

Mihrzak, ranked 76th in the world in men’s singles, returned from two sets to beat Khahanov in a second round match of Flushing Meadows, but was forced to retire during the first set of his third round against Switzerland Leandro Ridi on Saturday.

Later, he confirmed that he had torn the intercostal muscle.
