India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi says he had a “insightful” exchange with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines at a summit in China.

The two leaders spent 45 minutes in the Russian leader’s car – then Modi posted a photo of his trip along with the compliment to Putin.

“They were home … they felt comfortable there and so they continued the conversation,” Putin’s spokesman said.

The meeting came after scenes of manual holding between the couple, as they hosted China XI Xinping for the Shanhai Cooperation Summit, which is seen as a challenge for US President Donald Trump and the US domination at a global level.

Trump has imposed US tariffs for 50% on India goods as a way of punishing Delhi to buy Russian oil and weapons.

Tariffs – among the highest in the world – include 25% punishment for transactions with Russia, which are a key source of resources for his war in Ukraine.

India, a vital US Indo-Ocean, strategic partner, showed no signs of stopping its purchases, and comrades with Putin in Tianjin is considered in the context of Trump’s threats.

The United States was until recently the largest trading partner in India.

Putin, for his part, was faced with a deadline issued by Trump to agree to hold peace talks with the President of Ukraine Volodimir Zelenski.

Russia said there were no plans for such a meeting.

Taking the Tianzin summit, Putin thanked the Chinese and Indian leaders for their support and efforts to “facilitate the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.”

On August 22, Trump said he had given Putin a few weeks to answer before the United States took action.

Earlier, Trump said he could decide the war in Ukraine in a day.
