Jihadists Boko Haram’s Jihadists have killed over 60 people in an attack overnight in northeastern Nigeria Borno, local officials say.
On Friday night, fighters hit the village of Darul Jamal, a home on a military base on the border with Nigeria-Kamerun, killing at least five soldiers.
The Nigerian Air Force said they had killed 30 fighters at strikes after receiving reports of the village attack, where residents recently returned after years of displacement.
The attack comes against the backdrop of the resumption of jihadist activity in the northeast of Nigeria, with Boko Haram fighting rivals, the West African branch of the Islamic State group, intensifying the attacks.
More than 20 houses and 10 buses were destroyed in Darul Jamal, while at least 13 drivers and workers who worked on the restoration efforts in the city, Reuters reported.
Visiting the village on Saturday, Borno Governor Babagana Zulum said: “It is very sad, this community was displaced a few months ago and they were engaged in their normal business,” he told AFP agency.
“The numerical power of the Nigerian army is not enough to master the situation,” he said, adding that a newly created force called the Forest Guard was designed to strengthen security staff in the Hull area.
Nigerian Air Force spokesman Echiminen Eyodan said the observation reveals fighters who flee north of the city to nearby bushes, “Friday night.
“In a series of three accurate and consistent blows, running terrorists were resolutely engaged, which led to a neutralization of over 30 rebels,” he said.
The military has strengthened operations in Northeastern Nigeria this year, following constant target attacks on its formations and installations.
In April the Governor Zulum warned that Boko Haram is back After his fighters organized a series of attacks and seized control of some parts of the state.
Boro was at the center of a 15-year-old rebellion from the belligerent group, which forced more than two million people to escape from their homes and killed over 40,000.
In the height of his forces in 2015, Boko Haram controls vast areas in Borno before being beaten back.
The fight against the fighters became even more challenging after neighboring Niger withdrew his troops from a regional force created to deal with the jihadist group.
Boko Haram won international fame in April 2014 when he abducted More than 270 students from the city of Chibok, also in Borno.
