Watch: A police edition statement after the fugitive’s children were found

On September 11, 2021, Tom Phillips and his three children disappeared for the first time.

His Toyota Hilux was found parked at the tides of the beach near his parents’ home in Morocco on the northern island of New Zealand. Police have started a large -scale surgery to search for land, sea and air.

Less than three weeks later, the family returned home, with the father claiming he was camping.

Then, on December 12 of the same year, they disappeared again. In addition to a few chances and granular frameworks of CCTV footage, the Bushman and his three children have not been seen since then.

That was, until the early hours of Monday morning, when police in response to a signal of a burglary attempt in a shootout, which led to the death of Mr. Phillips, ending a four-year Mannth.

There are many questions about his disappearance, including why he took his children and disappeared into the harsh desert of New Zealand and whether he is able to avoid capturing so long, with help.

When Phillips returned home for the first time in 2021, he was accused of losing police resources. Efforts to search for the harsh, unforgivable landscape of the Western Wytomo region had cost the authorities of New Zealand hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Police did not start a new search the second time when he and his three children – Ember, Maverick and Jade, at five, seven and eight respectively, at that time – disappeared.

When he failed to appear to court on January 12, 2022, police issued an arrest warrant.

Phillips returned to his family home alone at night to collect deliveries on February 9 of the same year.

He was not seen then for more than a year.

Police said in the past that he believed that he had taken his children – now at the age of nine, 10 and 12 years – over a dispute with their mother, although he had never offered an explanation why he did this.

It is known that G -n Phillips is a bushman who had some survival workouts. The locals in Morocco said he was a person who wanted to be out of the net and was not on any social media platforms.

Police believed that he and his children had survived in the dense desert around the Morocco.

But it seems that G -n Phillips and his children could not survive only in the shrub of the shark.

There were a series of observations around Cowjia between August and November 2023, including numerous alleged robberies, as well as in the hardware store and Quad Bikes.

CCTV footage, filmed at the time, appeared to show G -n -n -Phillips and one of his children – both wearing camouflage, and masks over their faces – are trying to break into a shop in Piopio, southwest of Morocco, police said.

When Phillips was shot dead on Monday, police said they had found numerous firearms and other prey on his square bicycle.

Police have said earlier that he believed that Phillips was aided in his concealment by others.

When he was suspected of bank robbery in the Quiti, a small town in the Wytomo area, police said there was an accomplice.

Fewer than 100 people live in the tightly woven community of the Morocco. Although there was no suggestion that his family had helped him, given the arrest dispute, he has questions whether someone who knows it helps him stay hidden or know about his whereabouts.

In June 2024, police issued an award of $ 80,000 (£ 37,200) for information that could lead to the location of G -n Phillips and his three children. The deadline expired without any breakthroughs.

They were then seen this October. A group of teenage pig hunters, who passed through the bush around the Morocco, noticed them and filmed a brief meeting of their phones.

In the cereal footage, Phillips could see that he leads his children through the rough terrain, all wearing camouflage clothes, raincoats and large backpacks.

New Zealand, the media reported that teenagers had briefly talked to one of their children to ask if anyone knew they were there. The child had replied “Only You” and continued to walk, the father of one of the teens told the 1 News.

Watching has triggered a three -day search, including police and army helicopters. Police said last month that they thought aggressive search was a wrong approach, as they said that G -n -Phillips was armed and considered dangerous.

Tom Phillips was shot by police by rural road near Piopio in the early hours of Monday morning

He was not seen again until the end of August this year, when he and one of his children were captured in CCTV, which is said to have invaded a shop in Piopio, passing away with grocery.

It was Piopio, to which he returned on Monday morning. It was around 02:30 local time (14:30 GMT on Sunday) that police were called into a report on a burglary attempt at a country farm supply store there, which police believe that Phillips was not aimed at no avail before.

Reading motor, carrying two people, was seen heading for the Morocco. Police put spikes on the road, and when they stopped the four -engine motor, the officers said they had been welcomed.

Police said the first officer to reach the place was shot in the head and he remained in serious condition. A second officer returned fire and Phillips died at the scene, police said.

The child who was with him was unharmed and provided the police with information that brought them to the other two children who were in a remote campsite in the bush between the Morocco and they Quiti under near the frost conditions, police said.

Children – whose well -being was the main concern in New Zealand throughout their disappearance – now they take care of the authorities.
