At least 10 people were killed and more than 40 were injured after a freight train crashed into a two-storey bus in Central Mexico, authorities said.
The incident happened as the bus, driven by the bus company Herradura de Plata, penetrates an industrial zone south of the Atlakomulko region outside the capital Mexico City.
CCTV footage shown by the local media seems to indicate that the passenger bus was hit by a train as it was trying to cross the railway on Monday morning.
The Canadian Pacific train operator Kansas City has issued a statement expressing his condolences to victims’ families and warned drivers to respect the railway stop signs to “avoid these tragic situations.”
Both the bus and a train company work with authorities, investigating the incident.
Dozens of wounded people withdrawn from the remains have been taken to local hospitals.
The images made at the site of the crash appear to indicate that parts of the roof of the bus are missing, its front windshield is broken and the back is missing.
The state of the Prosecutor General of Mexico said seven women and three men were killed, while some of the wounded were in serious condition, according to Reuters.
This is not the first fatal bus accident to be reported in Mexico this year.
