D Dynasty of not paying Continued in 2024 to travel to Westeros. After running for six years from 2012-2017 when Game of Thrones was the most pirated Show on the Internet, its successor House of the Dragon Doubtful took back the title in 2022 And now, once moreIt topped the list in 2024.
News comes from torrentfreakWhich notes that the ranking is based on traffic from BitTorrent. That’s a solid indicator but only a small fraction of the actual number of things pirated from other sites that—of course—don’t report viewership. Also, this list doesn’t include most anime shows, which probably lowers the ranking a bit. Nevertheless, here is the list.
Here are some things. First, get paid for your shows. We don’t condone piracy and feel that if people put their time and effort into creating great stuff for you, you should thank them by obtaining it legally. That said, we understand that piracy is a fact of life these days and something that many people do regularly. We find several things interesting about this list. For example, it’s genre-specific, not just this year, but for most years. It definitely speaks to a certain type of fan who pirates TV shows. Someone who loves sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, video games, etc.
It’s also interesting to think about where the shows come from. TorrentFreak notes that in 2023, Netflix didn’t have any shows on the list, but this year it does. mystical. Since Netflix has such a large market share of streamers, it was thought that it was less susceptible to piracy, but apparently, this is not the case. Maybe it’s just that a show last year didn’t care about internet pirates. We would venture to guess, with The squid game back now, Stranger Things Coming back, and more, 2025 will see Netflix more consistently there.
The list also, in a way, tells what services people are not paying for. Prime Video leads the pack handsomely with three shows. You can expect this to be the case with most people, as it comes with other perks like Amazon Prime shipping. HBO has two shows, and while Pirates certainly doesn’t pay for cable, it’s likely they’ll pay for its slightly less expensive streaming service, Max. Then, of course, there’s the Apple TV+ and Paramount+, which both make more sense because they’re definitely smaller by comparison. That’s a lot to digest.
