Romanian far -right former President Candidate Kalin George has been accused of trying to make a coup after the first round of the presidential election was canceled last December.
Horatiu Para, a former French legionary and chief of the police in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and 20 other people were also accused.
The case is based on a planned raid of the Romanian capital Bucharest on December 8, which police transferred.
Romanian prosecutors describe a plot aimed at the Romanian Constitutional Order, which includes Georgesko, Potra, their group and alleged links to foreign intelligence.
Potra and others have been accused of inciting the coup while Georgescu is accused of conspiracy with Para.
Prosecutors claim that Georgesko met with other members of his group on a horse farm in December, shortly after Georgusc’s victory was canceled.
Initially, Georgescu denied that the meeting took place, but later acknowledged it after the photos were published in the Romanian media. However, he denies discussing plans for the uprising.
At the end of February, police attacked several places in Romania, revealing a cash of weapons, gold and money, claiming that the Grade group plans to put violent power.
Prosecutors claim that he is not currently in the country and can seek asylum in Russia.
The 63 -year -old Georgesko came the first surprise in the first round of the Romanian presidential election last November.
This result was annulled by the Constitutional Court Just days before the second round, it was held against the background of the allegations of Russian intervention.
Romanian intelligence services suggested that its presence and popularity on social media were reinforced by surgery with mass influence – conducted from abroad – to intervene in the result of the vote.
At a press conference, Prosecutor General Florenta identified the canceled elections in 2024 as “a result of a hybrid war orchestrated by Russia”.
He claims that cyberattacks at airports and public institutions coincide with an online misinformation campaign conducted through troll farms, bots and AI content generated.
Investigators say more than 2000 pages on Facebook have been used to reinforce Pro-Geeorgescu messages, while Tiktok Networks from over 20,000 automated accounts has intensified its campaign in the days before the vote.
After Georgeko was forbidden to register as a candidate His ally George Simion, the leader of the far -right Aur party, stood in his place at birth.
Simion won a dramatic victory from the first round but He was eventually beaten second by Niscor DanLiberal, EU Mayor from Bucharest, in the leak.
Georgescu has not yet commented on the allegations, although this month he accused the Romanian authorities of pronounceing “fraud, intrigue and division.”
President Dan said prosecutors’ report was “proof” that Russia had practiced “systematic misinformation” in Romania and tried to influence the 2024 election.
Date for the Georgesko process has not yet been given, but may begin in early 2026.
