Tesla is working to re -design his door handles “work” so they are less likely to trap people inside the company’s car, Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen Bloomberg told News Wednesday.

The news came just a day after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an inquiry about Tesla’s door handle and showed multiple examples of Bloomberg news investigation where owners or passengers were stuck in their car after the accident.

According to Bloomberg, Von Holzousen did not specify when Tesla decided to reconsider how his door works. Due to the protection concerns, China is already pressing the use of automaker to reconsider the use of automakers’ secret door handles, although the country’s top regulators have not taken final steps.

One of the two apparent problems with Tesla’s door handles is that they use electronic locks, which they can stop working if they do not take energy from the car battery system. The other is, although Tesler has manual door release in his cars, they are often tough and difficult to find.

Von Holzhausen told Bloomberg, “The idea of combining electronic and the manual together with one button is very meaningful.” “It’s something we’re working.”

The NHTSA has launched an investigation on Tuesday that the agency said they had received nine complaints from Tesla owners who had experienced failure with their door handle. In these four cases, the security agency said the owners had to break a window to “get back into the vehicle”.

Tesla’s owner’s manuals include instructions that both NHTSA and Bloomberg mentioned that describing how to use an outer power source to activate the dead electronic door locks. However, the NHTSA’s preliminary report states that none of the owners contacted with the agency reported the low-voltage battery alert-which would probably not know what the problem was.
