The head of Malawi’s election committee warned political parties not to declare prematurely to declare an election victory, stating that they should wait for the official results.
Anabel Mtalimanja’s warning came after the parties of the two major presidential candidates, the acting Lazar Chakver and his predecessor Peter Mutarika said they had won the poll on Tuesday.
Taking a press conference on Thursday, Mtalimanja said that only the committee was assigned to publish results.
The Malawians are looking forward to results, but the committee has not yet been released – despite the fact that almost all votes have been reported.
The committee is expected to announce the result only after all the votes have been arranged and checked to avoid being challenged.
The applicant must win more than 50% of the vote or expire is conducted.
The 2019 election was marred by a dispute when the highest court overturned the victory of then-President Mutarika, citing widespread irregularities.
The 70-year-old chakver won the re-execution with a big margin, drives it to the presidency.
85 -year -old mutarika hopes to regain the post in what would be a dramatic political return.
The Malawians also voted in parliamentary and local elections after a campaign dominated by the deteriorating economic crisis, which observed a serious shortage of fuel and foreign currency.
The official inflation is nearly 30%, with the frozen chicken in a supermarket in the capital, Lilongve, costs about $ 20 (15 British pounds), in a nation where people live on average $ 2 a day.
