Prosecutors have lowered some of the most serious allegations of sexual abuse against veteran television operator and former Wallabies coach Alan Jones after a court hearing on Thursday.
Now, Jones is facing 27 accusations that claim that he has observedly attacked or overcome nine men for two decades.
Eleven charges of aggravated indecent attack – considered more serious, as they are said to be related to people under his organ – were reduced on Thursday. Some accusations had also completely dropped.
The influential 84 -year -old media figure has denied all the accusations and the case – which will now be heard before a magistrate, not a court hearing – will return to court next month.
Deputy Master Magistrate Sharon Frend said there was a reformation of the case after two alleged victims withdrew, although there was no explanation why they were no longer part of the case.
D -Jones is now facing 25 of an objective attack and two sexual touch.
His lawyer, Brian Brach, told the court that the declined charges were “very big development” and “significant concession”, according to reports by the Australian broadcast corporation.
“There is no suggestion that … He had these applicants in his authority. He had no power over these applicants,” said G -n Wrench.
Earlier, police said some of the alleged victims had personally known the Radio Titan and that at least one had been hired by him.
Others say they were attacked the first time they met with him, said Michael Fitzgerald of the NSW police late last year.
Speaking to journalists outside the December court, Jones told reporters that the allegations were either “unfounded” or “distort the truth.”
Former teacher, Jones coach of the national rugby team of Australia between 1984 and 1988, before returning to a radio career.
In addition, he sometimes works as a speeches and an advisor to the Liberal Party figures – including former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser – and has launched several unsuccessful offers to represent the party both in the state and in federal policy.
The main part of Sydney’s air at the 2GB local station for decades, Jones juggled these obligations with television comments concerts before withdrawing from full -time work in 2020, citing health problems.
The broadcast operator is a polarizing figure, and for years has boasted one of the largest audiences in the nation, but often courts disputes.
He made the titles in 2012 to suggest that the father of then -Minister Julia Gillard was “dead of shame”, and in 2019 he collided with a massive boycott of the advertiser after saying that someone should “hit the sock down the throat of the leader of New Zealand at the time, Jasinda Ardern.
D -Jones has also been successfully tried for slander many times.
