Television hosts on late Night of America joined behind colleague comedian Jimmy Kimmel after he was stopped by the ABC in a row for comments he made for the murder of Charlie Kirk.
Stephen Colbert began his show by saying “We’re all Jimmy Kimmel” and said the star’s removal was “a rough attack on freedom of speech.”
Seth Myers said he was “a privilege and honor to call Jimmy Kimmel my friend” while John Stewart and Jimmy Fallon dealt with the issue of freedom of speech by making satirical sketches that were obviously forced to praise Donald Trump.
Their broadcasts came soon After the US President said The main networks were extremely negative for him and could be taken to their licenses.
For years, Trump has focused on those in the media, which he views as his opponents.
Is Kimmel’s stopping an attack on freedom of speech? A sign of another media company that worships Trump’s attack? Or long overdue reading? It depends on whose side you are.
This last decision sent a cold through Liberal America – and encouraged the supporters of the president, who had long faced the hosts of the talk show on the late night, which criticized him.
Ghetto imagesThe order began after Kimmel said in his monologue on Monday that the Mag’s Band is desperately trying to characterize this child who killed Charlie Kirk as something different from one of them and tries to “score political points from him.”
He also likened Trump’s reaction to the death of the conservative political activist of “How the four -year -old mourns goldfish.”
Brandon Carr, chairman of the Federal Communication Committee (FCC), which regulates network television, called these comments “sick”. Carr said he threatened to take action as the host turned out to be “directly misled the US public.”
Conservative critics say Kimmel pushed a false story, suggesting that Kirk’s suspect was a Republican “Make America Great.” While the exact motive is not yet known, on Sunday – before Kimmel spoke – the governor of Utah had said that the suspect was “indoctrinated by the left -wing ideology.”
Ghetto imagesMayers, the host of NBC’s late night, began his show on Thursday, saying that the Trump administration “pursues the repression of freedom of speech” before adding sarcastic: “And completely unrelated, I just want to say before we started here that I always admired and respected.”
To laugh, Myers continued: “I always believed that he was a visionary, an innovator, a great president and an even better golf.”
The host continued to play a series of Trump videos, declaring that he had banned government censorship and returned a free speech to America.
After playing additional videos about the situation in Kimmel, Myers said: “It is privilege and honor to call Jimmy Kimmel, my friend, in the same way that is a privilege and honor to do this show every night.
“I wake up every day and I consider my blessings to live in a country that at least intends to appreciate the freedom of expression.
“And we will continue to do our show the way we have always done it – with enthusiasm and integrity …” This was followed by a noise from the curtain, citing a previous joke on a horse defect to Trump during his state visit to the United Kingdom.
Returning to his opinion, Myers continued: “This is a basic … This is a great moment in our democracy and we must all uphold freedom of expression.
“There is a reason for free speech to be in the first amendment. It stands above all others.”
Ghetto imagesAt CBS, the presenter of the late show, Colbert, said, “For Jimmy, I’m saying that I and your staff at 100%.”
He said the stopping of Kimmel was “rough censorship” and “the most new and laughing action in a long campaign against media critics.”
Colbert has canceled his own show – This will end in May, so he has a free rating of months to say almost what he wants.
CBS said in July that the cancellation of the late show was a “pure financial solution”, but some observers are related to the switch to an oncoming federal merge decision, including the CBS -Paramount company.
The removal of Kimmel came after Nexstar Media, one of the largest owners of television stations in America, said he would not broadcast Kimel’s show “For the foreseeable future,” as his remarks were “offensive and insensitive.” Currently, Nexstar is also waiting for the federal approval for a separate transaction to be swallowed.
“So a company obviously capitulating in the whims of the president to ensure that their merger passes – has it ever happened?” Colbert jokes.
“It’s all about corporate relations.”
After his state visit, Trump told reporters about late night shows and networks: “All they do is hit Trump … They are licensed. They are not allowed to do so.”
Collbert replied, “Yes, they are! From the beginning … These shows have always talked about the current president and this happens to you.”
He added: “So no matter what they say, this is not entirely about what Jimmy said on Monday, it was part of a plan. How do I understand this? Two months ago, when the taste president celebrates my cancellation, he published” Jimmy Kimmel is after that. “
And that’s exactly what happened.
Ghetto imagesIn the NBC The Tonight show, Fallon told viewers: “I don’t know what’s going on and no one is doing. But I know Jimmy Kimmel and he’s a decent, funny and loving person and I hope he’s back.”
He continued: “Many people are worried that we will not continue to say what we want to say or that we will be censored. But I will cover the President’s trip to the United Kingdom, as I would usually.
“Here we are. Well, President Trump has just finished his three-day trip to the United Kingdom and he …”
After that sound, he slammed the oak Fallon with the words: “… it looked incredibly beautiful.”
In Comedy Central, Stewart uses a similar satirical approach, becoming a fake and “patriotic offensive host” of “a completely new government -approved daily show.”
He reluctantly praised the “perfectly colored Trump”, known for his “charm, elegance and undeniable sexual charisma.”
Subsequently, Stuart asked the seven correspondents on the show as to whether the “Niaseer and Critics” were right. “Does Donald Trump stifle the freedom of speech?”
“Of course not John,” they replied in tune with robotic voices. “Americans are free to express every opinion we want. To assume it’s otherwise funny. Ha -ha -ha.”
Meanwhile, former host of a long -time late night, David Leterman, is talking about stopping Kimmel at the Atlantic Festival in New York on Thursday.
“I feel bad about this because we all see where this goes, right?” he said. “Managed media. It’s not good. It’s stupid. It’s ridiculous.”
Conan O’Brien, who presented a NBC and TBS talk show, wrote to X: “Stopping @jimmykimmel and the promise to silence other hosts at late night for the administration criticism must break everyone on the right, left and center.
“It’s wrong and everyone with a conscience knows it’s wrong.”
Ghetto imagesIn Polarized America, the reaction to stopping Kimmel depends on your political accessories and not all hosts at a late night agree.
Regarding conservative-laying Fox News Greg Gutfeld said, “People come to me and go,” If you are a comedian and are on television, you should be upset with it. ” I’m not really. “
His guest panel criticizes Kimmel’s comments and claims that there are restrictions on free speech on network television.
The host also said that the people who are now defending Kimmel have previously tried to silence the right retail outlets and commentators. “The only way they would stop is if they know it could happen to them,” Gutfeld said. “But this is actually an honest thinking? I don’t know.”
Elsewhere, the former CNN presenter Pierce Morgan said Kimmel caused “understandable outrage throughout America”, adding, “Why does he declare himself as a kind of martyr of freedom of expression?”
