YouTube will eventually allow you to hide the pop-up recommendations displayed at the end of the videos, the company announced on Wednesday. Now, when you see a last screen, you can tap a new “hide” button in the upper-right corner of the video player to hide the pop-ups from the current video you watch.
Selecting this button will only hide the last screen for the current video you watch, not for all the videos on the platform, the company notes. If you want to bring back the last screen you can tap the “Show” button.
The decision to hide users’ last screens is a welcome addition to the platform, especially since they can keep the last bit of a video covering and in some cases it can make it stronger to see what is happening.
The company also announced that it was removing the “Subscribe” button that appears when you look at your cursor over a video branded watermark. YouTube explains that it is doing it because there is already a “subscribe” button at the bottom of the video player.
YouTube says it is launching new features in response to the user’s response, as many said they wanted the option to reduce confusion in videos and it could be easier to concentrate on the content they see currently.
As Creator, YouTube note that they still have the option of adding the last screen to the videos. The company hopes that these changes will have a minimum impact on the Creator’s performance and calculation on the platform.
For example, YouTube has found a test that giving users the option of hiding the last screen has reduced less than 1.5% in views from the last screen. Also, it has shown that less than ~ 0.05% of the channel subscription comes from the Hover-to-Subscribe effectiveness in Watermark.
