Within six years of settlement established in the settlement, anyone who made “failed” to cancel their Prime subscription online is eligible to pay up to $ 51 from Amazon. At the same time people signed up for prime can also rise to $ 51 if they sign up with a “challenged enrollment flow” – on a page with a confusing interface that people can buy unknowingly. The filing of the previous court was established that in some cases some users could select “two -day shipping” on an item and could not understand that they were signing up for Amazon prime as a result.
A spokesperson of the FTC cable said that automatic payments would go to some customers within 90 days.
The FTC says “the rest of the eligible customers will receive a notice from Amazon and will have the opportunity to submit a general claim form,” the FTC said. “Amazon has to post information about Amazon.com and the app. The settlement also requires an independent third party of Amazon who will observe their consent with this claim.”
The court filing states that prime sign-ups with “permanently” negatively alternative features “have been prevented from the structural” permanently “where a customer is actively denied a customer is assumed to be purchased.
For example, filing says, a button that “No thanks, I don’t want to shiping shipping” clearly indicates that a customer will be signed up for prime unless they click on it. When a person is choosing to sign up for the prime and its user interface like “Join the Prime” as “Language” should be made clear to Amazon. Similarly, Amazon needs to be clearly communicated when a major subscription is used to auto-recurrence when using words like “renewal”.
Initial allegations, which were filed by the FTC in June 2021, alleged that Amazon had improved its process to cancel Prime membership, but the company spent several years to complicate the cancellation process.
An email chain with Amazon staff has been included in the May 2521, which was described as “convenient and confidential” on the subject line from December 2021. In the email, the manager of prime content and marketing is the manager paraphressed key points that came up at a recent “US Prime Performance Meeting”.
“Subscription is a bit shadowed world,” the meeting reads a paraphressed quote responsible for anonymous person.
“Our sign-up is to be tested clearly, and to run overall members and increase the confirmation of the prime minister,” the meeting included in the same attachment reads separate paraphrased quotes from another person.
A different attachment shows that Amazon was aware that customers were disappointed. The presentation of a company slide has focused on customer service complaints about “involuntary” prime sign-ups, especially on September 17, 2017. (A separate attachment, which includes an email chain dated 25, 2017, the presentation seems to have been mentioned. Two dozen people were asked to “delete the powerpoint document” and “confirmation” after them))
A customer’s complaint in the presentation claims that when they chose a two -day shipping on a purchase, they didn’t know that they would sign up for a trial for Prime, they had “cheated” to sign up for justice for the Amazon Prime.
“I don’t like your service,” another complaint reads. “It ordered a product in Amazon advertisement [sic] I am in a program with Auto Billing that I haven’t signed up. I will not use Amazon and tell everyone about this kind of bad thing you are pulling. “
“It forces something slick and bloody unscrupulous [sic] I never wanted, “another complaint.
The same Amazon slide presentation is mentioned that confusing Prime sign-ups lead to the enhanced burden on Amazon’s customer service personnel, as well as “reduce customer confidence”.
