CAIRO/GAZA (Reuters) – Israeli airstrikes killed at least 14 Palestinians, bringing the weekend death toll in the Gaza Strip to 102 as Israeli and Arab mediators stepped up efforts to broker a ceasefire. .

Health officials said an Israeli airstrike killed five people in a house in central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, while another airstrike killed four people in Jabalia, on the northern outskirts of Jabalia, where Israeli forces have been on the move for three months.

An Israeli airstrike on a police station in southern Gaza’s Khan Yunis on Sunday killed five people, medics said. It is not yet known if all the dead are police officers.

The Israeli army said it struck Hamas militants operating from a humanitarian site in Khan Younis and an Islamic Jihad militant who attacked from a humanitarian site in Deir al-Balah.

Earlier Sunday, the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said Israel’s attack on the territory killed at least 88 Palestinians and wounded more than 200 others.

In the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City, relatives and neighbors rushed to the home of the Zuhd family, where medics said seven people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Saturday. On Sunday morning, the search continued for four people believed to be trapped in the debris.

“Three young men, the boy’s wife and three children are still here. We have retrieved this cousin. Another cousin was martyred and is now in hospital. Approximately 11 people were martyred here,” a relative, Amar Zuhd, told Reuters.

Israel said dozens of Hamas militants were killed

Israeli military forces attacked more than 100 targets around Gaza over the weekend, killing dozens of Hamas militants, the Israeli military said in a statement on Sunday. He also stated that he destroyed the rocket launching sites that were used to attack Israel in the past days.

Later on Sunday, he claimed to have killed an Islamic Jihad militant in the Jabalia area of ​​northern Gaza. Said Saeed Zaki Dahnon’s involvement in the October 7 cross-border attack on Israel, the military said.

Before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, there is a renewed push to reach a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas and to return Israeli hostages taken to Gaza.

Israeli negotiators were sent to Doha on Friday to continue negotiations between Qatari and Egyptian mediators, while US President Joe Biden’s administration urged Hamas, which is helping to mediate, to agree to the deal.

Hamas has said it is committed to reaching an agreement as soon as possible, but it is unclear how close the two sides should be.
