The son of former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe appeared in court, charged with drug possession.
33-year-old Robert Mugabe, Jr., was arrested Wednesday morning while he was depressed the wrong way down a one-way street, according to court documents. Police searched a black bag with a slingshot she was carrying at the time and seemed to find two small sachets of cannabis.
Following the incident, police said in a statement that five people in a “union associated with him” were also arrested.
Mugabe’s lawyer told the BBC that they plan to refuse the allegations and dispute the factual claims made by the police.
Ashiel Muzhia said the drugs were recovered from a car that has three other residents and that police have found 0.02 g cannabis – while the police sheet says police have recovered 2G, with a value of $ 30 (£ 22).
Mugabe was wearing a jog and a red hat while on his phone while he was led in a magistrate court on Thursday. He was surrounded by people and was not handcuffed.
The court left Mugabe in custody in anticipation of a guarantee decision on Friday.
To the alleged members of the union who arrested, police said they had found 25 marijuana sachets and six ecstasy pills.
Police said they would continue to investigate.
This is not the first brush of G -N -Mugabe with the law. In 2023, the second child of the former president and his widow Grace was arrested for claiming that he had damaged the property and spat on a police officer in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, in 2023.
He was released after agreeing to an out -of -court agreement with the applicant, who was his friend.
Former President Mugabe died in 2019 at the age of 95, two years after he was forced to resign after 37 years leading the South African nation.
He was fighting the 70s against the White Minority rule of what was previously called Rhodesia -but later accused of using violence to win elections and destroy the Zimbabwe’s economy.
Mugabe Wed was replaced by his ex -right -wing husband Emerson Mangagawa.
Relations between Mnangagwa and the Mugab family were fulfilled after accusing the current president of passing on a longtime Zimbabwe leader.
Grace had gathered ambitions to inherit her husband, but she was aside from Mnangaga’s supporters.
However, Mr. Mugabe, Jr., reconciled himself to Mnangagwa, visiting a rally in 2022, where he was publicly welcomed back to the ruling Zanu-Pf.
