A snowstorm captures 1000 people on the slopes of Mount Everest

Rescue efforts are performed on the remote Tibetan slopes of Mount Everest, where a snowstorm has caught nearly 1,000 people in campsites on the east side of the mountain, according to Chinese state media.

Hundreds of local peasants and rescue teams are located to clear the snow blocking access to the area, which sits at an altitude of over 4 900 meters (16,000 feet).

The Chinese media said some tourists were already saved.

The heavy snowfall began on Friday night and intensified on the eastern slopes of the Everest Mountain in Tibet, which is an area popular with climbers and tourists.

The Tibet Blue Sky team of Tibet was called for help that the tents had collapsed due to heavy snow and that some tourists were already suffering from hypothermia, Chinese state media reported.

The Tingri County Travel Company has stopped selling tickets and entering a picturesque Everest area since Saturday, according to the Reuters Agency.

Currently, the region is facing extreme weather, as the neighboring Nepal was bathed with heavy rains, which triggered landslides and lightning floods that have washed bridges and killed at least 47 people in the last two days.

In China, Typhoon Matmo has made the land, forcing about 150,000 people to evacuate from their homes.

Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world over 8,849 m. Although many people try to climb to the top every year, it is considered an incredibly dangerous hike.

In recent years, it has been struck by fears of overpopulation, Environmental concern and a series of Fatal climbing attempts.
