Vyacheslav GladkovThree people were killed and at least nine other injured in Ukraine’s last attack against the Russian border region in Belgorod, according to its governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
The impact struck the village of Maslova Pristan early Wednesday, Gladkov said. Emergency workers were looking for people who were afraid of a trap under debris.
This is the third consecutive day when Ukraine hits the region, leaving thousands of people without power and at least two other dead.
Ukraine has not commented on the attacks, but has repeatedly hit targets in Russia, including Belgorod, during the war.
Russian strikes have also caused power to power in several Ukrainian regions, said Ukraine’s energy regulator.
Russia began a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. With the winter approaching, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said that Russia is aimed at critical energy generation facilities, while Kiev is aimed at key Russian oil refineries.
A series of drones and missile attacks on Wednesday damage homes, vehicles and power lines in many areas of Belgorod, Gladkov wrote on Telegram.
He shared pictures of a buttermate, showing a sports center with his bloated roof and walls, and said that rescue workers are clearing debris and appreciating the damage.
In the nearby town of Moshtira, six people – including a child – were injured when a rocket and a drone hit a truck while a man was injured when a car was hit in Massichevo.
The strikes follow two days with similar attacks that caused eclipses and structural damage in the city of Belgorod and the surrounding regions. Videos checked by BBC check explosions and fires near a local power plant late Tuesday.
Nearly 40,000 residents were affected by a power outage in seven municipalities, according to Gladkov.
Ukraine drastically increased the number of attacks started against Russian oil refineries in recent months, causing a shortage of fuel and raising prices in some parts of the country, BBC has found.
At least 21 of the 38 major refineries in Russia – where raw oil is transformed into usable fuel such as gasoline and diesel – have been affected since January, almost half as much as throughout 2024. The strikes have contributed to a shortage of fuel and raising prices in several Russian regions.
Meanwhile, Russian attacks on Ukraine continue. The Ukraine Air Force said that on Wednesday, the defenses had removed or disabled 154 drones, but 22 struck whole in 11 places. The fragments of drones causing fires and damage to the civil infrastructure.
At least five people were killed At the end of last week, when Russia sent over 50 ballistic missiles and about 500 drones in nine regions in Ukraine.
Zelenski said that Moscow is again directed to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before winter and announced new funding for repairing damaged facilities and creating a reserve of equipment for the restoration of electricity supplies.
“Despite all the challenges, we must support the communities they face the most difficult times,” he said.
