Zimbabwe’s opposition legislator Desire Moyo was killed after a vehicle that was traveling in an elephant strike, a local media report.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning, while Mr. Moio and four other MPs travel on the Bulaway-Gweru highway, according to the ZBC state television operator.
He died immediately while his fellow legislators were left injured, the newsletter added.
The stands are poured on the well-known poet, welcomed because of his contribution to the arts, who died the day before his 46th birthday.
He was a member of the Opposition Citizens for Change (CCC), led by Nelson Chamis and served on the Committee on Sports, Recreation, Recreation and Culture of Zimbabwe.
Nkulumane electoral district in the second city of Zimbabwe, Bulaway, which he represents, confirmed the news of his death in a statement and shared his “deep grief and deep shock”.
The CCC member and MP Discent Bajila provided more details about the horrific catastrophe on the local news site Zimlive.com. He told the publication that he had talked to the injured MPs who betrayed the incident.
“I spoke to (Madalaboy) Ndebele, who was in the front passenger seat. His memory is that they hit the elephant on his back. After the impact, he remembers the elephant to turn and fight the vehicle.
“This, according to him, is what caused the most damage to the upper right side of the vehicle and ultimately led to the fatal injuries of Moio,” Bajila said.
Legislator Caston Mateu was one of those who would pay tribute to Moio, known as Mooxide, welcoming him as “one of the most difficult MPs in parliament.”
“The people of Nkulumani (SIC) are robbed by this great (man),” said G -n Matow.
The city of Bulaway, led by Mayor David Coltart, said that G -n Moio will be remembered as an “emblematic leader … and creative” that “seeks to support the arts” in and outside the city.
Mr. Moio was a awarded poet, teacher and administrator of arts “who devoted his life to the nourishment of the creative sector of Zimbabwe,” according to the Herald News state website.
The other legislators participating in the Friday crash were taken to hospital.
