An elite military unit said she had conquered power in Madagascar by President Andren Raoelina after weeks of protests led by young people above the water and the reduction of electricity across the country.

The group was seen to celebrate on the streets of the capital of the country Antananarivo.

Standing in front of the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, Capsat Chief Michael Randrianina said the military would form a government and hold elections within two years.

Capsat means the administration of staff and technical and administrative services and is the most powerful military unit in Madagascar.

Rayolina’s location is unknown, but he said he was sheltered in a “safe place” after an alleged experience for his life from “military officials and politicians”. Capsat has denied any participation in any such move.
