A released Palestinian prisoner was flooded to understand that his family was alive after he believed they had been killed.

Shadi Abu Sido told the BBC that the Israeli officer from prison had lied to him and told him that his family had been killed and his home was bombarded.

Mr. Sido spent 20 months in Israeli prison and was one of nearly 2000 prisoners exchanged for Israeli hostages, under the first phase of the US fire termination deal.

But when he arrived in Gaza, he was flooded to be greeted by his family.

Israel’s prison service said they had operated under the law and were not aware of such incidents.

Reports Lucy Williamson from the BBC.
