Bill Gates’s old climate lobbyists launch a new firm

In March, Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy company disbanded its energy policy team, laying off dozens of employees. Now, some of them have established a new organization, non-profit Clean Economy Project.

According to the New York Times, Gates cut Breakthrough’s lobbying group after deciding not to make much progress with the Trump administration. Report In March

CleanEcon, as it is informally called, is backed by an undisclosed group of more than 10 funders, including philanthropists and venture capitalists. The group, which is 10 strong, says it has three goals: “to build energy projects faster; to accelerate low-cost innovation; and to spur private investment in clean industries,” it said in a press release.

Alia Haque, who was Vice President of US Policy and Advocacy at Breakthrough Energy for nearly six years, is the organization’s president.
