Over the weekend, France’s anti-consumer fraud agency, the Directorate General of Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF), released a report. Explosive press release About Shin, alleging that the Singapore-based, Chinese-founded e-commerce giant was “marketing childlike sex dolls.”
Other publications have since published work-safe images of puppets and, Yes, they look like babies. Mercifully, it’s not at all clear that the “sex” part comes from just looking at the photos. According to the New York TimesFrance’s economy minister, Roland Lescure, threatened to ban Shin in France if the dolls continued to be sold, and quoted him as saying, “These monstrous objects are illegal.”
Dolls, and indeed all sex dolls, are now removed from the shin. “These publications come from third-party vendors, but I take personal responsibility,” said executive chairman Donald Tang. According to the Guardian.
