Apple’s board of directors has come out in opposition to a proposal to end the company’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs.

In A proxy filingThe company said the National Center for Public Policy Research (a conservative think tank) is submitting a proposal asking Apple to “consider canceling its inclusion and diversity programs, policies, departments and goals.”

Citing the proposal of the think tank Recent judgments of the Supreme Court Colleges are against race-based affirmative action and notes that other organizations have eliminated or scaled back similar programs, and it claims that DEI programs can make companies vulnerable to lawsuits. (Recently, Meta has dropped its DEI programAnd so is Amazon Pulling back as mentioned.)

Apple, however, said the proposal was “unnecessary” because the company “already has a well-established compliance program” that would likely keep it out of legal trouble. The filing criticizes the proposal because it “seeks to inappropriately micromanage the company’s programs and policies.”

The company also said it “strives to create a culture of freedom where everyone can do their best work.”
