Parts of Donald Trump’s inauguration will be moved inside the US Capitol due to the cold weather expected to hit Washington on Monday.
It will be the first time since 1985 – when it was cold at Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration – that the swearing-in ceremony will be moved indoors.
The president-elect announced the updated plans in a Truth Social post Friday. Graduation addressAs Reagan did four decades ago, as well as prayers and speeches in the Capitol Rotunda.

“For the tens of thousands of law enforcement officers, first responders, police K9s and even horses, and for the hundreds of thousands of fans who will be outside for hours on the 20th, the dangerous conditions.”
The National Weather Service predicted an “enhanced winter storm risk” for Sunday afternoon and evening and 2-4 inches of snow, with 4-8 inches as a “reasonable worst case.”
A “bitterly cold wind chill” is expected Monday through Wednesday, the NWS said Friday, with temperatures forecast to be “well below freezing.”
The agency is forecasting a temperature of about -5C at 11 a.m. on Monday, when the swearing-in ceremony begins.
Trump said the Capital One Arena – which has a capacity of 20,000 – will be open on Monday to watch the ceremony live and will visit the venue, which is about 2 kilometers from the Capitol, following the swearing-in.
The president-elect said that other events, including the victory parade at the stadium, and the opening balls scheduled for Sunday and Monday night, will continue as planned.
Trump encouraged fans who chose to attend to “dress warmly.”
