The order directs relevant government agencies to “pursue a resolution” that “protects national security while preserving” [TikTok.]Through the order, Trump is directing the US Attorney General to take no action for 75 days to protect Americans from the Foreign Adversaries Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA), the law that effectively banned TikTok in the US on Sunday, January 19.
“During this period, the Department of Justice will not take any action to enforce the law or impose any penalty against any entity for any noncompliance with the law,” the executive order said. read. “Even after the expiry of the above specified period, the Judiciary will not take any steps to enforce the Act. […]”
The move comes on the heels of Trump A US Supreme Court decision Retain PAFACA, passed with bipartisan congressional support during former President Joe Biden’s tenure.
