US oligarchs such as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Apple CEO Tim Cook were spotted sitting behind Donald Trump’s family at church on Monday morning, hours before the incoming president’s inauguration. And it’s a great reminder that the United States is about to enter a scary new era that begins when Trump is sworn in as the 47th president at noon ET.
Trump attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., on Monday, a tradition followed by past presidents such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush. But those presidents didn’t have the business leaders who filled the pews standing to benefit from the incoming administration.

Commentators on CNBC defended the presence of church oligarchs. Former New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu was asked about the presence of these business leaders and was excited by Monday’s visuals, saying “it wasn’t the bureaucrats” who were in the pews.
