Skeleton crew did not attach itself to the wider Star Wars Universe via splashy camos, but it carries with it a lot of connection And hints In the rest of the galaxy, far away in a litany of offhand notes and Easter eggs. But a sweet Easter egg apparently cuts deeper than fans expect.
at first Skeleton crew The audience and its young heroes alike spread out to Port Borgo’s pirate cove, surrounded by a whole flotilla of attractive looks. Star Wars Ships But one in particular stood out: a thin, white ship briefly flashing The Onyx cinder Entered the port. Some fans have identified the design as from a classic piece Star Wars Concept art: Colin Cantwell’s preliminary design for the pirate ship that would eventually become The Millennium Falcon. Cantwell’s thin, narrow design would eventually be repeated and reworked in between Tantive IV The blockade runner, however, can seemingly go back Star Wars Continuity through Skeleton crewjust like how andor canonized As his first star destroyer design Cantwell-class arresting cruiser.
Turns out the ship wasn’t quite of Cantwell. Instead, it’s a mashup of that design with a similar-looking Gaul Lander from the Gerry Anderson sci-fi classic. Place: 1999. Cantwell’s original design for the ship was actually shunned due to its perceived similarity to the ag gull, so the mashup is quite fitting – and the “Millennium ag gull” was brought to life by former ILM modeler and VFX supervisor Bill George, as part of, a series of imagines. A speculative show Celebrating life-size scale models of classic sci-fi ships and props.

“I’ve always loved the story of how the design of the pirate ship was changed because it felt like it looked too much like an ag gall. Place: 1999” George said recently Colnincantwell.comA site recently set up by friends and family of the deceased artist to celebrate his work. “My original idea was to mash-up two ships. It wasn’t difficult at all because they had similar proportions. “
George confirmed that it was his hybrid design that made it Skeleton crewAfter former colleagues at ILM reached out to him and asked if they could scan the model for use in a galaxy far, far away. “No one ever told me who was behind the request,” George added, “but when I was asked, I jumped at the chance! I have no idea, but once a model is created they appear in other media. I’m just glad it made it into the background as a ‘cameo’ appearance. “
The vessel has not yet been directly identified Star Wars‘Universe, so time will tell if Millennium ag Gaul One would find a title as playful as his portmanteau title, or if like Arrest Cruiser it would be marked by homage to Cantwell and George in some other way. But at least a fun little twist Star Wars‘Design history goes back to the galaxy, a long, long way – an idea almost 50 years in the making.
