Do not fly your drone over an active wildfire. While it can be tempting to capture video of the devastation, it can prevent firefighters from doing their job. That’s exactly what happened in Los Angeles on January 9 when a drone collided with a “Super Scooper” firefighting plane. The LA Times reported.

It comes as LA battles its worst wildfires in history, burning and killing thousands of homes at least 10. A drone collision forces the aircraft to abort its mission and touch down elsewhere for repairs. Photos of the plane show a noticeable hole in one of its wings:

Police are now trying to find out who was flying the drone, the LA Times reported, and the incident is under investigation by the FAA. The LA Fire Department warns that flying a drone during a firefighting effort could result in up to 12 months in jail or a $75,000 fine.
