A plane with 12 people on board has crashed in Kwale off the coast of Kenya, aviation authorities said.

It was flying from the coastal town of Diani to a game park resort, Kichwa Tembo, before it crashed at 05:30 local time (02:30 GMT), the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said in a statement.

One news site quoted a police statement as saying there were tourists on board. Kenyan media released images of the plane in flames on the ground with debris strewn at the crash site.

KCAA said government agencies are now on the ground to determine the cause of the incident and assess its impact.
