The alleged leader of the armed wing of the Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua has been captured in a joint operation, including Colombia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Colombia National Police said Jose Antonio Marquez Morales, known as Caracas, was arrested in the city of Waledupar and claims that he plays a central role in the management of logistics and finances of the Group for Drugs and Smuggling.
Tren de Aragua was directed by US President Donald Trump, who declared him a terrorist organization and deported more than 250 people, who claim to be members of the band in El Salvador prison.
Colombia National Police Director Carlos Fernando Triana Beltran said G -n Marquez Morales is the subject of Interpol Red notification, which is a request for police worldwide to keep someone in anticipation of extradition.
The news of the arrest appeared against the backdrop of continued tension between the US and Venezuela over efforts to fight Trump administration in Latin America.
He deployed warships on the Caribbean and last month bombed ships, which Trump claims to have carried drugs apparently traveling from Venezuela to the United States.
The Trump administration has accused Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro of being in a league with drug cartels and offering a reward for information leading to his capture up to $ 50 million (£ 37 million).
Maduro categorically rejected Washington’s accusations and defended his government’s actions against drug trafficking.
