Police in Pakistan claims they have discovered the bodies of three transsexual people on the way to the southern city of Karachi, in the last violence against the community.
They were shot by unidentified attackers and their bodies, discovered shortly after midnight on Sunday in the Memon Goth area in Karachi, police said.
“The bodies of the bullet of three transsexual women were found on the highway,” City Police official, Je, Ahmed Abbro, told AFP news agency.
Authorities are still in the process of confirming their identity and have not yet set a motive.
Amnesty International says there was a concern for violence against trance people, also known as Hijras, in Pakistan.
“Trans -agencies are a vulnerable segment of society and we all have to give them dignity and respect,” said Chief Minister of the province of SID SIED Murad Ali Shah in a statement.
In 2018, the Pakistan Senate voted to support a bill defending the rights of transgender people and allowed them to determine their own sexual identity.
The Transsexual Rights Law has been praised by many worldwide, but later key sections were overturned by the Sharia court.
Forecasts say there are about half a million transsexual citizens in the country and they face continuous social exclusion and abuse.
A report of 2023 in Lance Journal noted that 90% of transsexual people in Pakistan face physical attacks.
