Creative Suite Company Canva Thursday launched its own design model that understands different layers and layouts to power its features today. The company also introduced new product forms, updates to its AI assistant, and the ability to build with coding tools for sheets to create widgets to get repeatable insights.

Canva said it is launching its own basic model, trained on its elements, that will create designs with editable layers and objects compared to a flat image. It said the model works in a variety of formats, including social media posts, presentations, whiteboards and websites.

“We started by creating flat images with diffusion models. Omni Models took it a step further, where you’re able to edit those flat images with a lot of sophistication through prompting. But the tools prompt you on your way to the final result, which for a visual medium, is challenging,” said Canva’s Global Head of Product, Robert Cowalke.

“What we’ve found is the ability to marry this idea of starting with prompts and going far, but being able to iterate directly on their own, is where people want to be.”

Adding more AI features to Canva

The company unveiled an AI assistant called Canva AI A chat-like interface for creating new media Items using prompts earlier this year. The platform now makes that assistant available across screens, including the Design and Material tabs.

Earlier this year, the company added a spreadsheet product and a feature that lets users create mini apps via prompts. Now, it’s connecting these two products, allowing users to use data stored in spreadsheets and create widgets from there.
