The prominent Cuban dissident Jose Daniel Ferrer arrived in Miami after being released from Cuban prison.
Shortly after landing in the United States, the Democracy Activist called for the release of hundreds of political prisoners held in Cuba.
Earlier this month, the 55-year-old revealed that he had made the “difficult decision” to go into exile after he was told that his wife could also be closed and their son was sent to an institution for minors.
In a statement by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, he said that G -N Ferrer and his family had left the country after a “official request” by the US government and insisted that G -n Ferrer had given his “explicit acceptance”.
As a coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba – an umbrella group of dissident organizations – D -Ferrer was one of the most revealed critics of the Cuba Communist government, which prohibits political opposition.
Like many Cuban dissidents, Ferrer was in and out of prison.
He was briefly released in January after a deal agreed by the Vatican, under which US President Joe Biden then removed Cuba from the list of US state sponsors of terrorism, only days his term ended.
But Mr. Ferrer was arrested again after three months, during which he continued to speak against the Cuban government, which accused him of breaching the conditions of his conditional release.
The dissident said that after his re -arrest, “the cruelty of dictatorship to me did not know the boundaries.”
He accused the authorities of prison in humiliation and his torment.
Colleagues dissidents have described his departure from Cuba as “forced exile”.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, son of Cuban immigrants, said in a statement that “Ferrer’s leadership and tireless advocacy for the Cuban people poses a threat to the regime that has repeatedly closed and tortured it.”
“We are glad that Ferrer is already free from regime oppression,” Rubio added.
He also called on the international community to “join us to hold the Cuban regime responsible for his abuse” and to request the release of “more than 700 unfairly detained political prisoners” held on an island ruled by the Communists.
