Denmark has announced $ 4.2 billion ($ 3.2 billion in British pounds) additional defense costs to strengthen security in Greenland and the Arctic and North Atlantic regions.

He will also spend $ 4.5 billion, buying another 16 F-35 fighter jets from the United States, which will lead to his common fleet of such advanced aircraft to 43.

“With this … Agreement, we significantly strengthen the capabilities of the Danish Armed Forces in the region,” Denmark Triglets’ Defense Minister said in a statement on Friday.

The exhortation of defense comes after US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to acquire Greenland, saying that the huge Arctic island – under the Danish sovereignty – was “critical” for national and economic security.

The most important thing is that a new headquarters of the Arctic Command will be established in the capital of Greenland, NUK, together with a new military unit under a joint Arctic command in Greenland.

But all this comes against the backdrop of concerns about President Trump’s intentions, who said he wants to gain control of Greenland for security reasons and because of his huge resources.

“I think we will have it,” Trump said in January, citing Greenland, adding that 57,000 residents of the island “want to be with us”.

Greenland is home to the US radar from the Cold War and has long been strategically important to Washington.

Although the island has a widespread autonomy, it remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Trump suggested that the island was crucial to military efforts to track Chinese and Russian ships, which he believes are “everywhere.”

Greenland is located on the shortest route from North America to Europe, making it strategically important to the United States. It is also home to a large US space facility.

It is also strategically located between North America and Russia.

In recent years, there has been increased interest in the natural resources of Greenland, including the extraction of rare earthly minerals, uranium and iron.
